Memorability of words and sentences

Certain words and sentences stick in our memory. This line of work aims to understand why. With respect to words, we found evidence that memorable words convey a lot of information about their meaning (i.e., uniquely pick out a particular meaning) – a paper is coming soon. We are extending this work to sentences and are also investigating how word and sentence memorability affects neural processing by linguistic and long-term memory mechanisms.
